Part of Albany’s food processing industry is the fertile farmland, which makes for delicious fresh produce at the local farm stands. Visit the Albany Farmers Market every Saturday in April – November to get a taste of Albany’s farms. There’s also several more farmers markets in other Willamette Valley communities and local farms that run farm stands. Sample Albany’s local restaurants through their “Nosh Tours” or take a self-guided tour through the local wineries and breweries. The Willamette Valley is also one of the world’s best wine-growing regions.
Victorian architecture is prevalent in many Albany homes. Historians and architects credit Albany with having the most varied collection of historic buildings in all of Oregon with over 700 historic buildings.
The city is home to four historic districts: Monteith, Hackleman, Airport, and The Downtown Commerical District. You can download a self-guided walking tour of Albany’s historic districts through The Albany Visitor Association. During your tour, you’ll learn more about the names and history behind Albany’s iconic buildings, some dating back to the early 1800s. Browse Albany’s local boutiques and art galleries as you make your way through the downtown area.
After you tour downtown Albany, you can drive or bike through Linn County’s historic covered bridge loop. Downtown Albany also has a historic museum and carousel that features over 50 hand carved animals.
Beyond history, Albany is in the center of the Willamette Valley’s countless outdoor recreation opportunities. The area state and county parks and National Forest lands are free to explore. Hiking, biking, camping, and water sports are just some of the activities that Albany’s nature-loving residents enjoy.
Albany lies where the Calapooia River meets the Willamette River. The community is a 20 minute drive from Corvallis and an hour and 15 minute drive from Portland, making it close enough to enjoy the attractions each city provides.
Northwest Art and Air Festival - A festival in late August featuring hot air balloons, music performances, artist demonstrations and fun activities for all ages.
Willamette River Festival - A festival in late July featuring barbeque cook offs, pie and rib eating contests, pirates and much more.
Mondays at Monteith - A concert series throughout the summer that features musical artists.
Albany Wine Walk - An event featuring over 20 Oregon wineries set in downtown Albany.
