Flooring

A nice, new floor can change the entire look of a room, and it can also make that room more functional. Plus, if you are getting your home ready to list in Albany or Corvallis you want to ensure your floors look their best.

So what kind of flooring is best for your home? That depends on the room in question and also how you plan on using that room. Here are some common flooring options and the rooms where these options shine!

  • Carpet
Carpet can be a lovely flooring choice in rooms where you want to have a cozy appeal. It's also soft to sit on. There's really no better choice for a bedroom, and in a bedroom, you can get creative with your carpet choices. Long, shaggy fibers, super-soft fibers, and light colors work well in bedrooms. There's little risk of the carpet suffering damage in these spaces.

In kids' bedrooms, opt for darker carpets or more intricately patterned carpets that are less apt to show stains. Carpet can work well in living rooms, too. However, if you have a carpeted living room, you'll need to be vigilant about taking your shoes off at the door.

  • Vinyl Flooring
Vinyl flooring is inexpensive and easy to install. It's also very low maintenance and easy to clean. People love it for spare bathrooms, basements, and mud rooms.

While most vinyl flooring isn't an attention-grabber, there are some nice patterns available. If you're planning to DIY a floor, vinyl is a great choice.

  • Laminate Flooring
Today's laminate flooring is so much more attractive and durable than the laminate flooring of yesteryear. You can now find laminate flooring that has real wood as the top layer. It looks like hardwood, but it's easier to install and maintain. Of course, there's also classic, solid-colored, and patterned laminate.

Most laminate flooring offers a little cushioning that makes it softer to walk across when compared to tile. We love laminate flooring for bathrooms, kitchens, and even living rooms. Toss an area rug across the laminate in your living room, and you're set!

  • Tile Flooring
Tile flooring has a classic look, although you can certainly find tiles with a more modern vibe. Ceramic and stone tile tend to be the most popular options for flooring. One nice thing about tile is that you can scale the size up or down depending on the look your want to create. Use small tile for a busier look or large tile for a more minimalist appearance.

Tile is a classic choice in bathrooms and kitchens. It also works well in entryways, as it can make a lovely first impression.

  • Hardwood Flooring
Hardwood flooring is a real show-stopper in a dining room, although it can also be a nice choice for a living room. Some people even use it in bedrooms for a more rustic aesthetic.

Today's engineered hardwood is relatively easy to install and maintain. You'll need to avoid letting it get too wet and clean up any spills quickly. But if you ever decide you want a different color, you can typically have it stripped and refinished.
